Traveller and Gypsy Awareness Training
Gypsies and Travellers have their own culture and traditions with some groups such as Romany and Irish Travellers retaining their own unique languages. An understanding of these distinct cultures is essential in order to improve access and effectiveness of health, education, accommodation and related services.
This training has been designed to put across the Traveller and Gypsy’s point of view and the examples given reflect actual custom & traditions, manner and way of life to statutory agencies, organisations and groups who come into contact with the community.
The training consists of:
1. Languages (Cant & Gamin),
2. Marriage customs & courting rituals (also damage of Big Fat Gypsy Weddings),
3. Different cultural groupings (Cant speakers & Gamin Speakers),
4. Strict cleanliness codes,
5. Strict moral codes,
6. Burning of homes/possessions,
7. Nomadism and
8. Strong family units.
Differences between Romany Gypsies & Irish Travellers

CRAIC NI Culture Awareness
We delivered Cultural Awareness by facilitators with insight and knowledge of ethnic minority communities, representing Chinese, Polish and Traveller communities.
An understanding of these how other cultures is important to Northern Ireland. It is essential in order to improve access and effectiveness of health, education, accommodation and related services.
These workshops have been designed to put across the point of view from the minority ethnic community CRAIC NI will give examples to engage agencies, organisations and groups who come into contact with the minority ethnic communities.
